Services Available

Routes To Work is dedicated to improving the employment prospects of residents of North Lanarkshire who are currently out of work. We understand that people have different needs, require different levels of support and are able to move towards their next job at an individual pace.

Our services therefore reflect this understanding, and we have a variety of options available for clients as follows:

Community Intermediary Services: Individual, confidential support provided by a training & employment expert which will assess your current skills & abilities, assist you in understanding the range of options available to you in improving your job prospects and support you in taking the action necessary to achieve your goal. Informal meetings take place in one of our 50 or so community venues across North Lanarkshire during which we can assist you in improving your confidence, help you in completing application forms or making approaches to employers, establish if there is any financial support you can access to assist you in returning to work and match you to existing vacancies or training opportunities within our database.

Action Plan Plus: Available to residents in certain areas of South Wishaw, this is a flexible programme where you can try new activities, learn new skills and explore new ideas at a pace that suits you. The programme gives you all the help and support needed to move forward and is delivered in a friendly, informal manner in partnership with Motherwell College in a local community venue - the Regeneration Centre, Craigneuk.

Employability Project: Specifically providing specialised support for parents of children who are experiencing difficulties in getting back to training or employment, this service is delivered through a team of friendly Key Workers in a range of local community venues across the North Lanarkshire district. Individual help is provided to help you understand what childcare, transport, training, employability and financial support is available to assist you in getting back to work.

Training Assistance Grant Scheme: All our staff team will be able to advise you on how to access funding for vocational training which will guarantee employment. To qualify, you normally need to be unemployed for three months or more and have a job offer which is conditional on you achieving a qualification or certificate of competence. If this is the case, we may be able to get you the funding necessary from North Lanarkshire Council.

Employer Intermediary: We have a small team which provides a free service to aid the growth and development of people and businesses in North Lanarkshire which;

  • Screens candidates and matches them to suitable jobs,
  • Offers employers the opportunity to input on training programmes,
  • Offers employers the opportunity to pre-screen job applicants,
  • Signposts employers to other advice and information services to develop their business.

Routes To Health: Available for clients in selected areas in Coatbridge and Motherwell on health related benefits, the programme provides one to one support to help understand, manage and overcome health, leisure and lifestyle barriers to employment. Clients will benefit from a confidential health assessment, health interventions including occupational therapy, physiotherapy and alternative therapies as well as having the option of working with a health & fitness adviser to improve their general fitness and lifestyle.

Employment Links: A service that links clients eligible for help through the Working for Families Fund initiative and seeking employment locally, with major employers in North Lanarkshire who are currently experiencing recruitment problems. Individuals are linked to employment opportunities with a comprehensive package of support provided to help address whatever barriers they are experiencing including skills, confidence, transport and most importantly, childcare. The project works at the same time with local employers to identify how improved childcare provision can help resolve recruitment difficulties.

Progress 2 Work: Specifically working with clients in the Coatbridge and Airdrie areas, assistance is provided for people recovering from a drug dependency to find the most suitable route into training and employment. Individual support is provided to former and stabilised substance misusers to help them progress towards work and take care of issues which may prevent them returning to work such as housing tenancy or disclosure of offences to prospective employers.
