Let’s celebrate the journey of Kieran, a young person from North Lanarkshire who achieved his career goals in 2021. If you’re looking to take the next step to secure employment in 2021, please give Routes to Work a call on 0800 783 4731 to find out how we can support you. I would like to celebrate the journey of Kieran, a young aspiring tradesperson who came to Routes to Work in October last year for support. Kieran heard about the great work we do at Routes to Work and self-referred by calling our freephone number, he went through our registration process and was allocated a caseworker, Annemarie Toner. Due to Covid-19 restrictions in place Annemarie and Kieran work together remotely, this allowed Kieran to access the host of services and support we can offer whilst keeping safe. Kieran and Annemarie worked together to create an action plan and soon afterwards we enabled Kieran to access his CSCS training to ensure he had the relevant training to access any apprenticeships. This was only the start of Kieran’s journey.
Annemarie worked on Kieran’s confidence, self-esteem, provided interview skills training and was on hand throughout to provide regular advice and support. In December, Rotes to Work’s External Link Worker, Kirsty McCabe identified an Apprentice Joinery opportunity for our clients with Curtis Moore based in Hillington. Kieran was short-listed for the position and his CV was sent to the employer for consideration. Kieran was successful and started his career as Apprentice Joiner in January. Curtis Moore were delighted with the quality of candidates we sent and the overall experience of working with Routes to Work. Yvonne Devlin, the Group Financial Director for Curtis Moore had this to say: “We are delighted to have Kieran McNiven aged 19, starting with Curtis Moore Group on a Joinery Apprenticeship, especially in these uncertain times. Kieran’s CV was forwarded to us by Routes to Work and once Kieran was offered the position, they have been instrumental in offering full support to both us and Kieran to ensure a smooth transition from long term unemployment to a future long-term career with full training to become a qualified Joiner. Kieran has shown commitment and effort in attending various Training Courses/work placements and volunteering to keep himself busy throughout and has so much enthusiasm and appreciation for being offered this career opportunity. We recognise there is a severe lack of experienced tradesmen within the Construction sector and we continuously strive to offer employment, training and support to young people keen to learn and grow- we recognise they are the future of our industry. The Company is also rewarded through their enthusiasm, work ethic, commitment, and loyalty. There is nothing better than seeing a young person’s self-esteem and hope for the future being elevated through employment and full support.” Routes to Work will support Kieran to obtain his Safe Use of Power Tools, CSCS and Working at Heights qualifications to ensure Kieran has the best possible start in his joinery career with Curtis Moore. |
