Peter had been unemployed since 2005. He registered with Routes to Work and met his case worker to discuss his future options and choices of work. Peter highlighted that he would enjoy working in a warehouse/production work environment. Peter also had a desire to be a Care Assistant and had a car so he felt he could move around and support others. The case worker agreed that care work was a good option for Peter and discussed some options for short training courses in Care with him. Peter gave the training options strong consideration and they both agreed an action plan of training and intensive job searching. Within a month, Colin had attended several relevant courses: REHIS, Intro to Care, Care job roles and skills, CV Cover Letters. Colin also undertook additional First Aid training and moving and handling. He successfully completed all of this training with a high pass rate. The case worker then had several meetings with Colin to discuss returning to work and made an appointment with a Routes to Work External Link Worker. They met and discussed a ‘mobile’ support worker role and undertook a Routes to Work skills class in interview preparation.
Peter had highlighted he had issues with literacy and numeracy and worried about the impact of this in any work role. The case worker then contacted NLC Adult Literacy and Numeracy Support who could then support his needs. Additional support was also procured and provided on a one to one basis by a Neuro linguistic Practitioner. Throughout Peter was an enthusiastic candidate who was keen to get back in to work and use the support from Routes to Work as best he could. The caseworker had arranged an employer info taster session for Routes to Work Clients with Albert Bartlett, leading to an eight week job opportunity. Peter sent his CV for consideration and he was immediately successful. Completing his eight week contract, he heard of the possibility of a contract extension so Peter applied and successfully gained a full time job. At the same time, he was also informed he was successful in obtaining a job in the care sector. Peter decided to choose the production work and was happy to accept the job offer. Within a month, an internal Team Leader post was advertised and Routes to Work supported Peter with a letter of application and updated CV. Peter was successful and was offered the Team Leader role and to successfully maintained this position to date. |
