Company Profile

A Motherwell based leading manufacturer of quality UPVC windows and doors are looking to recruit an Estimator to add to their team. Working hours will be Mon – Thurs 08:00am – 16:30pm and Fri 08:00am – 15:30pm. Hourly rate for the role will be dependent on experience.

Key Duties and Responsibilities :

To take responsibility for all pre-contract activity for tenders and quotations. This will be all supply and install window and door works for Commercial and Newbuild clients.

To take a holistic commercial regard for the requirements and implications of all tenders under the post-holder’s control. This goes beyond the role of a pure estimator and into ‘living and breathing’ a contract, to enhance our tender success rates by tendering “clever”.

Must return accurate estimates/tenders, which accurately reflect all the costs associated with the estimate/tender and have an absolute attention to detail to ensure a “catch all” conclusion to our tender offers.

Continuously develop their individual capabilities with respect to technical knowledge and commercial awareness.

Input into managing and prioritising workload so that all target dates are achieved.

1. Manages all costs relating to the project at the pre-tender stage.

2. Must communicate with our Sales force at the key points of the tendering process to allow them to professionally liaise with clients at the appropriate times.

3. Outsources bought-in products and services (and ensures company obtains the most competitive rates). Build long-term relationships with suppliers and sub-contractors so that we optimise our competitive edge.

  1. Build close and special relationships      with clients’ tendering so that we can maximise our tendering advantage.      Must think strategically      and laterally; adjust style to achieve the desired outcomes from these      sources.

  2. Develop Bill of Quantity models to enable      precision-pricing and margin-enhancement of tenders.

  3. Define specification to minimise cost of offering and/or identifying and exploiting value      engineering savings

  4. Preparing tender and      contract documents, including bills of quantities.

  5. To work      collaboratively with colleagues to ensure all costs provide value for      money, meet the client’s specification and are operationally practical.

  6. Build and maintain a database of      suppliers and sub-contractors that can be used in future tenders to ensure      our quotations are highly competitive.

  7. Liaising And processing information from      the Installations department for all supply and fit tenders and estimates.

  8. Enter data into our systems in an accurate fashion that      ensures a seamless hand-over to Manufacturing at the Contract Review stage      to enable the contract to go immediately to manufacturing. This will      include the preparation of material lists on Window Designer to ensure we are      meeting our customer’s specification.

Essential Criteria :

Construction related qualification (HNC / HND / Degree)

Proficiency with Microsoft packages

Able to multi-task and meet strict deadlines

Desirable Criteria:

Able to read architectural plans and develop cost estimates
