COMPANY DESCRIPTION:
A metal fabrication and manufacturing business based in Chapelhall which serves an array of businesses from construction to food processing are looking to add a Joinery Fabrication Specialist to their team. They have recently won contracts that require joinery work outside of metal fabrication. The ideal candidate would be an experienced joiner who can take the initiative, read from a drawing and be comfortable around power and woodworking tools. There will also be a time where they will need to operate simple tasks on a press brake and guillotine.
The successful candidate will be offered a part time permanent position, working 24 hours per week between the hours of 8am – 5pm over 3 days. Flexible hours, any age friendly, driving licence required
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Interpret and work from technical drawings, sketches, and cutting lists; Measure, cut, machine, assemble, and finish timber and other non-metal materials (e.g., plywood, MDF, polymers) to specification; Produce jigs, templates, and fixtures to support repeatable, accurate fabrication; Carry out fit-outs and component builds that interface with metalwork produced in the shop; Safely operate woodworking machinery and handheld power tools (saws, routers, planers, sanders, drill/driver, etc.); Perform simple, supervised operations on sheet-metal equipment—press brake and guillotine—in line with SOPs and training; Conduct basic equipment checks and routine maintenance (blade changes, calibration, cleaning); Verify dimensions and tolerances; perform in-process checks and final quality inspections; Record work completed on job cards, note variances, and communicate issues early; Maintain traceability of materials and components where required; Follow company H&S procedures and use appropriate PPE at all times; Maintain a tidy, organised work area; manage mixed-material waste (sawdust, offcuts, swarf) safely; Assist with manual handling, storage, and safe movement of materials across the workshop.
Essential criteria: Time-served Joiner (or equivalent proven experience in carpentry & joinery); Able to read and work from technical drawings and cutting lists accurately; Confident using woodworking machinery and power tools (saws, routers, planers, sanders, drills) safely; Willingness to perform simple press brake and guillotine tasks after in-house training; UK driving licence (role includes occasional collections/deliveries)
Desirable criteria: Ability to create jigs/templates/fixtures for repeatable builds.
